Our new lobby touchscreen came full of Netflix and TikTok. Now it only does our stuff.

By Dr. Steve Pelton, DVM ·

We put a 32-inch touchscreen in the front lobby, and out of the box it was basically a giant tablet full of junk: Netflix, Disney+, TikTok, Instagram, Peloton, 25 apps nobody in a vet waiting room needs. I had Claude switch every one of them off over the network, and nobody had to touch the screen.

Out of the box, and now

  • Switched off

25 apps nobody in a waiting room needs, Netflix and TikTok included.

  • Turned on

My books, our forms, the online store and about 40 short videos.

  • When it's idle

A watercolor Copper walks through pet tips in six little poses.

  • Runs itself

It wakes up and puts itself back on the home screen.

Then we built what goes on it. While they wait, clients can tap through my books, our forms, the online store and about 40 short videos from my sites, mine included. When nobody's touching it, a watercolor Copper (painted from a photo of the real Copper) walks through pet tips in six little poses. I run the whole thing from VetNexus. I type "play allergies video" and it plays out front.

The part I didn't expect to care about: it wakes itself up and puts itself back on the home screen, so it runs all day without anybody babysitting it.
